The results of a comparative TB report showed that Madhya Pradesh has seen a 10% increase in tuberculosis cases per lakh population last year in comparison to 2021, along with an increase in presumptive case testing. Every year, the TB division of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare publishes the India TB Report.

According to a comparison of records, the states TB cases per 100,000 population increased to 214 last year from 194 in 2021. The records showed that the authorities tested 13,09,645 samples for presumptive TB infections in 2022, which was almost double the 6.34 lakh tested in 2021 in the state.

State TB officer Dr. Varsha Rai stated that the increase in cases in Madhya Pradesh does not imply that tuberculosis infections are on the rise. However, she noted that this can be attributed to increased testing in the state.

She explained that the authorities are also attempting to identify patients through a door-to-door campaign for active case discovery, which began in the state in 2019–20 as part of a TB eradication project targeting high-risk individuals in venues such as religious institutions and others.

According to the data, the state recorded 1,86,293 TB illnesses in 2022, including 14475 pediatric cases. 80% of the 1.86 lakh cases were of pulmonary tuberculosis, with the majority of cases identified through chest X-rays. According to the data, there were 19099 patients with a prior treatment history in the state last year.
